While I am at it with blog posting, I wanted put this here. I love this overview of tunings for Sonic Youth LP's. It presents some very interesting analytical potential.
-Hive, a trio consisting of Ben Kraus, Kyle McCarter and myself, have worked considerably on an EP, which we recorded over the summer at The Bunker studio in Brooklyn. The EP contains 5 of my compositions that highlight the unique abilities of all of us, as we are all very active forces in the creative process of the trio. We are preparing for our release show, which will likely take place in early Spring, in Brooklyn. Additionally, we have recently debuted music at Strand and Queens Kickshaw (Astoria), Silvana and Shrine (Manhattan), and we are scheduled to play Rockwood Music Hall on Friday, April 1st. More about Hive:

Teaching at Columbia
-The past fall I began teaching Ear Training at Columbia University. I am very lucky to be working with such great teachers/musicians who share similar ideologies. I have been able to further develop specific teaching techniques that involve learning how to hear and respond to musical stimuli via improvisation. I very much look forward to continuing to work with this team.
Kaufman Music Center (jazz theory/music theory/tonal composition)
- At Kaufman Music Center I have continued my role as a classroom teacher and private lesson instructor (guitar). My classes are focused on music theory. Some of the highlights have been seeing the really fantastic work of students as they explore tonal composition and analysis. They are inspired, and a pleasure to teach. Additionally, I began teaching Jazz Theory to high school juniors. We are looking at various style periods, improvising, composing, and presenting on artists through analysis of historical, and stylistic/theoretical trends.
